Durian - King of Fruits

My enduring memory of Asian food markets is the bloody awful smell of durians.  They are everywhere and they stink.  The sort of stink that has them banned from people bringing them into hotels and public places.

Rumours abound about the taste, but from my perspective if it smells that bad - why eat it?

The Asians have a love hate relationship with them - some love them, some hate them.  I am happy to not speak from experience and join the later camp!

My only positive thought about durians is that Orangutans love them.  These trees can grow very tall and they are in season around September so a lot of Orangutans are staying high up in the canopy at the moment, on their beds they make in the trees with their bellies full of this fruit.
